Collect structured feedback with templates

Collect structured feedback from teammates using templates

Written by Marina Salmon

Feedback templates help you collect structured feedback from your teammates and customers, instead of free-form text that's hard to act on.

There are two generations of feedback templates. Chrome and Slack use the new question-based templates. Creating feedback directly in Harvestr, and the HubSpot widget, still use the classic title-and-content templates.

If you built templates before the change, see Migrate to the new feedback templates.

Microsoft Teams does not use feedback templates.

New templates: custom questions

Instead of one text field with a placeholder, the new templates let you build a small form. You choose which default fields appear and whether they're required, then add your own questions.

Four question types are available:

  • Input — short single-line text

  • Textarea — longer multi-line text

  • Single select — one option from a dropdown

  • Multi select — several options from a dropdown

Each question can carry its own description, shown as guidance to whoever is submitting.

Set these up from the integration's own settings: Chrome extension settings or Slack settings. The Chrome extension article walks through the full configuration.

Classic templates: title and content

A classic feedback template is made of three parts:

  • Template title — the name you give the template to identify it

  • Message title — what gets populated as the title of the feedback

  • Message content — what gets populated as the content of the feedback

When you create feedback using a classic template, its title and content are pre-filled from the template.

Creating a classic template

Go to the templates section in your Harvestr settings and click Create new template.

Setting a default template for an integration

Choose the default template for each integration from that integration's settings. Once selected, it loads automatically when your teammates send feedback.

Using a template inside Harvestr

When creating new feedback in your inbox, select a template from the top right corner of the feedback creation window.
